The cheapest way to travel 200 kilometers from Tbilisi to Kazbegi is by marshrutka van (11 o’clock every day; travel time 3.5 hours; 10 GEL per person).
If you want to stop along the way, I suggest you rent a car to travel. This will give you maximum flexibility to view the landscape of the Georgian military highway.
The Caucasus Mountains are located north of Tbilisi, forming a natural land boundary between Georgia and Russia. One of the most spectacular churches in the area, Gergeti Trinity, is located on the southern slope of the Caucasus Mountains, in Georgia.
The Georgian military road is the road between Tbilisi and Kazbegi. It is an attraction in itself. It is 200 kilometers in length. It gradually rises in altitude from Tbilisi to the Caucasus Mountains. 200 kilometers takes a whole day, so you can take pictures while relaxing.
